Happy New Year, everyone! If you are anything like us, after a few months of family, festivities, and food, we find ourselves wanting to shed a few pounds, eat a little better, and take care of ourselves a bit more. As such, we are giving January a theme here at Throwback Brewery. We are calling it Wellness January, and we are going to be offering one or more Whole 30, Paleo, or low carb food specials each week (as always, made from scratch with a focus on food that is warm & comforting), a fun weekly mocktail, and a few local experts speaking on wellness-oriented topics throughout the month.
The first wellness-oriented topic will be held on January 16th at 6:30pm, and it will be led by Josh Gould (super knowledgeable owner and lead trainer of Seacoast Strength & Conditioning) who will be leading a discussion on the “The Do’s and Don’ts of Exercising for Fat Loss”. During this informal talk there will be plenty of time to ask Josh questions!
Also, since wellness is about mind and body, and since we think that stimulating the mind is a great way to boost intellectual curiosity and wellness, we are bringing back a concept and a group originally started in 1727 by Benjamin Franklin. It’s called the Junto Club, and was founded by Franklin as a “club of mutual improvement”, where folks from diverse occupations and backgrounds met to discuss moral, political, and scientific topics of the day. While the concept of the Junto is almost 300 years old, we believe that the idea of bringing people together to learn, share ideas, and conduct a discussion “in the sincere spirit of inquiry after truth, without fondness for dispute or desire of victory” (as Ben Franklin put it) is much needed in our community today. As such, we are excited to be announcing our first Throwback Junto meeting, to be held here at Throwback Brewery on Wednesday, January 23rd at 6:30pm. The first topic for discussion is marijuana legalization. Head on over here to read more about the topic and the club!
Finally, since it is a new year, we also figured it was a good reason to try new things! So, on January 30th at 6pm, Throwback friend and Yoga instructor Laurel Crawford will teach a Yoga for Beginners class. This class is perfect for anyone who has wanted to give yoga a try, but felt a bit intimidated, never found the right class, or maybe never felt motivated to go. Whatever your situation, you will be in great hands with Laurel!
We hope everyone enjoyed the holiday season, and we look forward to seeing you here in 2019!
